Anglican Authors

Anglican Authors

This work is an index or registry of all works by Anglicans in our library. It is organized by author last name. Additionally, there is material on the general area of Anglicans, as well as pertinent doctrinal observations about this group. Some authors and/or works have more detailed information about them.

This is a registry listing of all our authors in this group, along with Biographical data, complete listing of their works (as I can find it on the Internet), and additional material on the general group. I seek to define the general group’s teachings, beliefs, and doctrines, as well as identify subgroups within this main group, such as Episcopalians as a part of Anglicanism. Note: The purchase link below will only buy you the AIM, described above. No other actual modules are included in this module.

Overview

The Anglican church began as a reaction by the King of England against Catholicism, although it was a personal matter and not because of doctrine nor practice really. As such, the Anglican religion basically is just “warmed over” Catholicism, complete with all the problems of Catholicism, Mary worship, salvation by works, priesthood, etc.

Evaluation

I have written on the Catholic Category page, that I have rarely seen any Catholic work that really impressed me. First, I speak of the writer being saved and presenting what he says from a saved person’s perspective. I doubt any Catholic writer truly understands salvation. Secondly, I do not see Catholic writers as grasping any spiritual matter, and therefore their writings are of little use in reality.

But in Anglican works, the situation is different. I am not sure why, I am just saying that I have seen a lot of Anglican writers that seem to have a good grasp of Salvation, and many times a good grasp of spiritual matters. I would note that these “good” works are more in time past than modern times.

My “theory” here is that somebody told their theologians to find doctrinal errors in the Catholic church, which became their competition, and they started truly searching Scripture and came up with some very valid attacks against Catholicism.

Although there are some good commentaries and devotional type stuff by Anglican authors, anything touching the Lord’s Supper, church polity, or Mary worship is going to be twisted towards their Catholic roots. Use their material with great caution.
