Murray Christian Armour Eph 6:10-18

Murray’s work, The Christian Armour, was written as Europe was in turmoil and war. He sees parallels between the world of his day (politically and the war perspective) and this passage of Scripture. Murray’s main focus in on the spiritual warfare. Note that this is an inspirational/motivational work that has a few verses each chapter, and the author launches into exhortations from them. This is not high expositional work then.

Newton, John – Works of John Newton (6 Volumes)

The works of John Newton are 6 volumes of the writings of John Newton. The content of these 6 volumes are a combination of a lot of his correspondence (letters) and his sermons, including some sections that are like a dictionary of concepts and terms, and also parts that look like a commentary.

Ryle – Coming Events and Present Duties

This work by Anglican Bishop JC Ryle, Coming Events and Present Duties, is a work that outlines somethings for Christians to be aware of concerning the return of our Lord, and some duties that we should be doing in relation to that. He deals with some signs of the Lord’s return also.

Body The Guided Life

The Guided life by George Body is a shorter 5 chapter work looking at the Holy Spirit guiding us by the way of contrition, then Sanctity, then Ministry, and finally by the way of Patience.

Gray – Inspiration of the Bible

Inspiration of the Bible is a short 4 chapter work by Dr. Gray (President of Moody Bible Institute). His works are very scholarly. He examines the definition of Inspiration, the Extent, the Proof, and then difficulties and objections to Inspiration.

Scougall {Episcopal}- The Life of God in the Soul of Man

The Life of God in the Soul of Man was written as a letter of spiritual counsel to a friend, and it succeeded far beyond the author’s expectations.

Mercer Bible Characters

This is a 31 chapter work on various OT and NT Bible Characters. Reade was an Anglican writer, basically writing about non-biblical subjects.

Askwith – The Christian Concept of Holiness

This is a 12 chapter work, looking at holiness from several different angles: Moral duty, Virtue, Conscience and Reason, Happiness, etc.
