This is a shorter (five chapter) work on sermon preparation by Baptist Theological Seminary professor, John Broadus. His point of view in this work is to look at “great preachers” through the ages in different groups and make comments on them.

Glover, T.R. – Jesus of History

In Glover’s work on the Jesus of History, he explores the life of Christ. Note that he has some really interesting topics such as Jesus’ teaching on Sin, and Christ’s use of the Old Testament. Some others are Jesus’ Own God Consciousness, Jesus is to be known by what he does, and Jesus’ personality.

Moody Men of the Bible

In Men of the Bible, Moody looks at Abraham’s life, his four surrenders, the Call of Moses, Naaman the Syrian, the Prophet Nehemiah, Herod and John and the Baptist, the man born blind, Joseph of Arimathea, and the penitent thief.

Rossier, H.L. – Life of John the Baptist

In Rossier’s short 7 character work on the Life of John the Baptist, he looks at the nation of Israel at that time, and the different elements and events in the life of John the Baptist.

Edersheim-The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah

Life and Times takes Jesus the Messiah, and examines the New Testament teaching in light of Jewish history and culture

Mercer Bible Characters

This is a 31 chapter work on various OT and NT Bible Characters. Reade was an Anglican writer, basically writing about non-biblical subjects.
