This page lists works in the theWord Bible Program format which have to do with Angels in the Bible. The word for “angel” simply means messenger, which is a person that delivers a message from one person to another, and at times, the word clearly refers to earthly men delivering messages, in which our translators correctly use the word messenger, and when a celestial being is being referred to, they use the word “angel.”

Classes and Types of Angels

In reality, when we speak of angels, we do not know much about them. We can safely say that outside of the Bible we know nothing, and culture, false religions, myths, fairy tales, etc. have built a cult around them. But we have to clear all of that away and only use the source that is absolutely right all the time, even if the information is less than what we would like it to be.

In trying to “classify” angels, we are clumsy at best. This is simply because it is very difficult to understand if the differences that we can discern are a category or class, or a vocation being different for different individual angels. We can only observe generally really.

Archangels are guardians of people and physical things. “first angels” or “leader angels”. Jude 1:9; 1 Thessalonians 4:16.

Angels is the general name for all classes of angels. Angels appeared to humans to deliver messages to accomplish some task. Judge 2:1; Genesis 19; 2 Samuel 24; 2 Kings 19:35; appear with a sword Number 22:31; 2 Samuel 24:16.

Seraphim are “the fiery ones”. They are the ones closest to God and are associated with maintaining the holiness of God. Isaiah 6

Cherubim are the keepers of the celestial records and hold the knowledge of God. From Ezekiel 10.

  • Hovering, burning, whirling wheels below and a sapphire “form resembling a throne” above 10:1-2.
  • Wings are as loud as God´s voice 10:5.
  • Entire body covered with eyes 10:12.
  • Four faces, ox, human, lion, eagle 10:14.

Thrones “glowing wheels” with many eyes. dispenses the judgment of God. Ezekiel 1:15-21. “A wheel within a wheel”, burning and gleaming like beryl, full of eyes all around.

Dominions or Dominations heavenly governors.

Virtues maintain the natural world.

Powers border patrol agents between heaven and earth.

Principalities “rays of light” overseers. They guide our world.

Living Creatures human or animal Genesis 1:20; Leviticus 11:10. Ezekiel 1, Revelation 4:8.

Angels are mentioned in the Bible some 273 times.

  1. Angels were created by God. Genesis 2:1
  2. Angels were created to live eternally, are immortal. Luke 20:36, incorporeal Hebrews 1:14.

  4. Angels do not marry. Matthew 22:30; Mark 12:25
  5. Angels are wise and intelligent. 2 Samuel 14:17

  13. Angels are not omnipresent, omnipotent, nor omniscient. Daniel 10:12-13; Jude 1:9
  14. Angels are too numerous to count. Psalm 68:17; Hebrews 12:22
  15. Most angels remained faithful to God. Revelation 5:11-12
  16. Three angels have names in the Bible. Gabriel (Daniel 8:15-16; 9:20-21; Luke 1:19, 26-27), Michael (Daniel 10:10-21; 12:1; Jude 1:9; Revelation 12:7), and the fallen angel Lucifer or Satan. Daniel 8:16; Luke 1:19; 26.
    * In Tobit in the Apocrypha, Raphael is mentioned Tobit 5:4, as well as Uriel, Selaphiel, Jegudiel, Barachiel and Heremiel..
  17. Only one angel in the Bible is called an Archangel. Michael.
  18. Angels were created to glorify and worship God the Father and God the Son. Revelation 4:8; Hebrews 1:6
  19. Angels report to God. Job 1:6; 2:1
  20. Some angels are called seraphim. Isaiah 6:1-8
  21. Often appear in dreams Matthew 1:20; 2:13, but not to frighten Luke 1:29-30 nor disorientate Acts 12:9 – Jesus
  22. They will be with Jesus when he returns Matthew 16:27; 25:31; Mark 8:38. and enter into separating the saved from the wicked Matthew 13:49.
  23. Some angels have used their will to rebel against God and are evil. Matthew 25:41; Romans 8:38-39; 2 Peter 2:4.
