Prophecy Resources

These works are specially works that deal with prophecy in the Bible. Note that prophets were preachers in the Old Testament. In a real sense, the New Testament preacher is also a prophet.

But there are two senses in which these people proclaim the message of God to a people. The first sense is to tell them what they do that displease God (which is sin), and how they should respond to God to change their sinful lives. The second sense is rarely invoked in actuality, but when God’s patience is nearing its end, then God proclaims judgment on the sinner, and this is seen in the Old Testament as bad things that happen to Israel for their unrepentant heart. Something bad will happen. This is seen in the flood, when Noah, a preacher of righteousness, preached to the people while he was building the ark.

As for the case of Jonah, Nineveh repented, and God didn’t send the judgment until that generation had passed away. In that sense, a prophet predicts the future events. In this sense, many things are foretold, such as the coming of the Messiah, his rejection and crucifixion. Eschatology is highly involved with this sense of the predicting of the future. Usually today, a prophet is thought of as predicting the future, but it is not a prediction from within himself, but actually a revelation of the future that God reveals to one of His messengers.
