What I have been working on
For the last few days I have been working on my tw archive files on my computer. I have around a quarter million *.twm files on my hard drive right now (not counting what is on my 7+ external hard drives and my some 200 DVDs, some 10 are BluRay 100GBs). A particular work may have up to 50 to 100 variations in name, size, version of the actual text (I reformat text and name it with a new version number), compressed, encrypted, etc. I have to compare them, delete and rename them, and in some cases open them in theWord and add TWids, and also compress them. A lot of work behind the scenes.
Basically, I am against encrypting files. These files are converted to other programs, like MySword, by others and I do that myself, and frankly, having both encrypted and unencrypted versions is too much of a headache. Probably, 95% to 99% of these files are public domain works, so it is easier on me and those that use these files if they are unencrypted.
I am also working on hardened the website against bots and hackers inserting viruses to stymie the site. This has been a various year fight, and it continues. I make constant backup copies (about one backup per week) of this site, and it has become very useful recently this year. I am doing virus scans and adding new antivirus plugins and testing them.
Hosting Company Reset
In August of 2025, my hosting company reset the site to a May 2025 version, so it wiped out about half of my files for download, and reset the download statistics from 3 million to 1 million.
11/15 Summary:
Files for Download: 3787.
Total Downloads: 2,451,686
from Oct 31 – note 323,679 in 19 days = 17,035 per day
from Sept 23 – note 1,166,200 in 53 days = 22,003 per day
Statistics for the Website
So the conclusion is that with the 3 million downloads, reset to 1,285,486 which is what it was in May, about 1,714,514 downloads in the statistics were wiped out. Because of load on the server of keeping these statistics, I reset the entire download counter to zero on October 31st, 2025. So from October 31 to November 15, there were 323k downloads. From September 23 (which had the May 25 image of the site), that means that there were 1,166k downloads. All total, I am guessing that we will have about 5 to 6 million downloads just this year. 3 million from January through August, and another 2.5 million from August to today. We are averaging about 20k downloads per day, so from now (November 15) until the end of the year, that will be another million downloads.
